Preventative Maintenance

Preventative maintenance is the key to having a sparkling swimming pool or spa that is swim ready at anytime. You the homeowner can do much of this yourself, or you can have a maintenance specialist come to your home as needed to do the maintenance for you. Owning an inground swimming pool or spa is a commitment to the upkeep of the pool. Depending on the amount of use your pool or spa gets each day, your maintenance schedule can be twice a week, weekly or once a month.
Choosing to use a maintenance specialist to come to your home and do the maintenance for you can be very efficient. Because our professionals are trained to maintain all types of swimming pools, the charges for maintenance visits are kept low, and chemicals are cheaper.

However, if you would like to maintain your swimming pool or spa on your own, you should calculate about 2 hours for the first couple of times you do it. Then as you get the routine down, schedule about an hour for each maintenance check. The following is a checklist for your swimming pool maintenance:
- If you have a swimming pool or spa cover, pump off any excess water, clear off any debris, and open the cover.
- Add water if necessary.
- Test the water chemicals, and add chemicals if necessary according to your pool and spa professional's instructions.
- If you have a tile border around your swimming pool or spa, use a tile brush to quickly scrub the tile clean.
- If the walls or floor of your pool have brown or green algae, use a pool brush to brush the debris off of the walls and floor.
- Vacuum the pool according to the instructions of your swimming pool or spa professional.
- Turn off the pump and clean the hair and lint trap in the pump.
- Check the filter pressure and backwash if necessary. Again, your swimming pool or spa professional should show you how to do this.
- Clean the skimmer basket.
- Skim the top of the pool water for removal of all debris.
- Retest the pool or spa water since adding the chemicals and add more if necessary. (Be careful not to over chemical your pool, it can take time for the chemicals to circulate through the entire system. You can also retest the chemicals the next day.)
- Close the cover.
